Ravens are special animals, and for thousands of years cultures around the world have assigned special meanings to them in their myths and spirituality.
Across cultures and time, ravens have held a multitude of roles: messengers, creators, jokers and tricksters, and agents of change, amongst other things. Some traditions hold that the original Raven was white - and was turned black in the course of it’s adventures. While ravens appear black from a distance, up close their feathers are opalescent - reflecting a number of colors.
Just as pain is an experience which occurs in multiple domains, we look to the raven as symbolic of creatures who journey in multiple domains. The opalescence of the Raven’s feather serves as a strong reminder that by close inspection we reveal new understanding and new experiences which, in turn, shapes our experience of our world.
